Here at Syler Veterinary Clinic, we are proud to have a tonopen in our office.
Tonopens are great instruments which allow us to measure the intraocular pressure, which is abbreviated IOP. This is the pressure of the fluid inside your pet’s eye. We use this test to measure for glaucoma.
Glaucoma is a condition when the pressure builds inside the eye because there is too much fluid in the eye. This occurs because the eye can’t drain the fluid out properly. It is really important to catch glaucoma early because it can cause damage to the optic nerve, causing blindness.
Various medications can be used to help your pet through this painful disease, though the eye may need to be removed if left untreated or caught too late.
Don’t hesitate to contact us today at (903) 675-5401, if you have any questions about our tonopen or glaucoma.
